Cristeph Gallery

A solo exhibition of contemporary Oil Paintings by Donegal born artist Maria Noonan-McDermott will be held in the Cristeph Gallery, Port Road, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal Friday 14th June—29th June 2002.

Dublin based artist, Maria Noonan-McDermott returns to Donegal with her latest exhibition "Impressions", featuring a diverse selection of her latest works. This exhibition is testimony to one of the most original artists in the contemporary art scene. Working in oils, and encompassing a broad range of subject matter, from abstract to figurative, landscape to still life, Maria creates each piece in her own unique style, resulting in a visually striking and exciting display.

Maria is a well established and respected artist having contributed successfully to many gallery and public exhibitions throughout Ireland. Her forthcoming shows include solo exhibitions in the Mullingar Arts Centre, Co. Westmeath, Oct-Nov 2002, the Airfield Trust, Dundrum, Co. Dublin Feb-Mar 2003 and a collaborative exhibition with international photographer Ingrid Horstmann in Munich, Germany.

Maria’s work is her reflection of the way she sees life. Her inspirations taken from everyday things, people and places. Her work, she says,

“… is about searching for the ultimate statement through colour and form and giving her paintings a Voicebox for the inner soul we all possess, spiritual and mysterious.”

Her paintings are suggestive, even portentous, in the sense that they imply situations, events or relationships that are not directly expressed.

Her style is distinctly recognisable as she paints with knife, confidently applying layer upon layer, enhancing the quality of light and movement and allowing the texture of the paint to play a key role in the structure of her work.

On show her paintings demand attention, grip the imagination and reward the curiosity of our senses.
